When a biologist working for an oil company drilling in the Arctic is killed, Kolchak thinks more is going on than everyone is saying. When more brutal deaths occur, sources are silenced, and a report that the killer is a gorilla becomes the official story, Kolchak wonders if the killer is neither ape nor man, but something in-between, something that was discovered deep under the Arctic ice.
